Transmission Service Fort Worth: When To Change The Fluid

By Ryan Schmidt

When it comes to your vehicle, you should have interest and know all that there is to know about it so that you carry out all the required maintenance services. Among other fluids that keep your vehicle running is the transmission fluid. If you are anew motor owner, do not be among those who debate whether the fluid should or should not be changed. Experts from transmission service Fort Worth say that the fluid should be changed. The debate should actually be more on how often and how would you know when it needs to be changed.

To be on the safe side, you should at least find out depending on the intensity of your vehicle usage, its mileage or its model. Some mechanics advise vehicle owners to change the transmission fluid at least after 50,000 miles. However, according to instructions that come with most vehicles, changing can be done every 100,000 miles, but it does not apply to all models with Ford being one of them. If you do not know how to tell when your fluid needs changing, here are some guidelines.

Make it a habit to always look at the transmission fluid. The fluid is normally red, but as it ages, the color might turn dark. Presence of debris in the fluid is also another way to tell if it needs changing or not. Experts also say that a burning odor in the fluid means that changing time might quickly be approaching.

The irritating sounds of your car squealing and grinding might be an indicator that your car has mechanical issues, but it mostly indicates that it is past the time for the transmission fluid to be changed. Once you take it to the experts, they will be able to tell if that is the issue or there is another underlying problem.

Sometimes shifting may prove to be a problem when your vehicle needs a change in automatic gearbox fluid. This problem occurs in both manual and automatic vehicles and persists in manual ones because requires one to physically use more energy in trying to control a vehicle that has shifting difficulties.

Debris and dirt in the fluid cause the vehicle to surge. When a vehicle is surging, it suddenly moves backward or forwards like someone has unexpectedly pressed the brake or accelerator. This inexplicable surging should be dealt with as soon as it is noticed by checking if the fluid needs any change.

If you ever notice that there is a delay in your vehicle moving especially after shifting gears, you are probably dealing with a case of dirty fluid. The contamination causes interruption of fluid flow which causes the delayed movement.

You should never wait till things come to worse so that you can act. Know what the manufacturer of your vehicle requires and also follow your mechanics advice. When changing, you can either drain or flash out the oil. Flushing out the fluid is however not recommended in all vehicles. To be on the safe side, always read your vehicles manual or better yet, always follow your mechanics advice.
