Adjusting Bikes Of Different Handlebars Type

By Ryan Adams

Common problem encountered when riding a bicycle is that it is uncomfortable during the whole ride because the position of handles are not adjusted in an angle that would promote a posture that is comfortable enough. When a bagger handlebars is way lower than it is supposed to be, that is when the discomfort takes place. But there is an easy procedure on how that can be handled, people no longer has to be afraid of fixing it on their own because it is not that hard to accomplish.

Before jumping into the action, determine first whether the type of handlebars on bike that is owned is thread or threaded because these two do not have the same of adjusting procedure. A thread less type has spacers located on top and lower parts of handlebar stem. If there is nothing like that found then basically it is the other type.

Anyway, loosen up the screws at the back of handlebars. These screws are located on the back part and are often referred to as pinch bolts. An Allen wrench or a hex key that can fit on screws may be used to remove them all. Once everything are unscrewed, remove the top cap.

Insert the wrench into the bolt located at the top and turn it in a counterclockwise direction to successfully remove it. Slide the spacers off and set the bolts aside. Then lift the handlebars off the top part then set it aside as well.

Start adding spacers on stem of owned bicycle to give the longer position which is wanted. When the comfortable height has been added enough, proceed with installation of everything to the way it was before being dismantled. Tighten the screws in ways wherein it will not cause any trouble when riding the bike.

Threaded types has longer handlebar stems compared to the other one. It is often fitted to the bike frame and spacers are not found in it. This has screw on the backside of it or it can be plastic rings attached to the bottom and top areas of handlebar stem.

First step with this one is measuring the length between the upper parts of stem to the exact bike frame. Be mindful of the exact measurement and take note of it if possible. This is in case there is a need of reverting it back to its normal height because the adjustment was not as comfortable as expected then this can be done easily.

Then proceed to loosening of the screw on top with still an Allen wrench. Do this in a counterclockwise motion about four to five times till it completely loosens up. Move it freely whether up or down depends on how high or low a person wants the handlebars should be.

When trying to determine the appropriate height, be sure to not go beyond the markings that are put on the handlebars. This markings are the guide on how far or how high the handlebar should only go. Raising it beyond would possibly be of harm and no one wants that. When everything is set, tighten the screw back.
