An Overview On Drag Handlebars Connected Designs

By Jeffrey Cole

Motorcycles gripping bars are an important component of their ergonomics. Their shape, as well as the position of the holder, has an impact on how a motorcycle is ridden. Ultimately, it affects how riders go round corners, how much effort is needed to ride a bike including the comfort of a particular make. Besides this, the external appearance of a cycle is greatly enhanced by the shape of gripping bars. There are numerous types of holders besides drag handlebars which buyers can choose from. Each make has its purpose, advantages plus disadvantages. Some of them are discussed below.

To start, Z-bars are a very common type of switches in constricted choppers or customized narrow cycles. A unique characteristic of these is the arrangement of tubes making up hand-grips. Switches have a Z shape and lie opposing each other on either side of the internal rise of handles. Ultimately, grips have a visible slant appearance with a lower internal rise. Differentiating qualities of these bars is narrowness, almost straight hand-grips which do not bend towards a cyclist. Hand-grips can either be Zed or Maynard handles. Instead of a Z angle, Maynard grasps are more perpendicular to each other. Even though Zed grasps are also perpendicular, their inner rise is taller than for Maynard.

Another make is ape hangers. These are common in cruisers and choppers. Levers are tall so that instead of leaning, riders stretch out hands to hold switches while their backs are straight. Notably, these switches are not comfortable to ride on for long distances. As opposed to coziness, manufacturers are concerned with a unique design that is fun, especially in huge bikes. The height of grips vary between twelve and sixteen inches but there are taller models with a length of twenty-four inches. Depending on hand-grip height, you will find two variations of this make. One is baby ape which has much shorter grips then Buck-horn model whose levers bent a little towards cyclists.

Another brand is the club-man grasp. Holds are classically designed clip-on one-piece tubes lying low on the upper front part. This design reduces air resistance as riders bend low and forward while cycling. Outwardly, grips have a sporty sharp appearance suited for sporting bikes.

Besides the mentioned models, there are clip-on bars commonly seen in modern sports cycles. To facilitate very high speed as well as ease of moving around corners, levers are low lying such that cyclists have to lean forward while riding. Clip-on tubes are simply mounted on top of anterior splits. Riders can move them forward or backward depending on the preferred position while riding. However, some variations have permanently fitted tubes whose position may not be adjusted.

Another model is motocross handles. Such holders are common in dirt cycles even though they may be used in different models. Such hand-grips are unique because they are very straight. Though a few are curved on mounting bars, a straight hand-grip is placed across to enhance rigidity.

Besides those, tracker switches are close to motocross in appearance except that they are flatter. This flat shape makes them suitable for racing along tracks. Installation of these bars is easy as they are made from simple materials.

There is Keystone bars. Like Zed handles, these holders form an opposing Z both ends. Their variance is on the top portion whereby for keystone model, levers are more slant inwardly to pose a more aggressive appearance.
